When we visited Chi earlier in the day, she had cooked breakfast for us of steamed rice flour pancakes with savoury fillings. Some were filled with a fresh egg, something new for me ! She insisted we returned later in the day for our supper, and when we arrived she was already preparing a banquet, cooking all the food over an open wood fire in the kitchen.

It was quite amazing to find so many different dishes being brought to the supper table, all cooked by Chi and her sister. The food looked and was delicious, freshly cooked and using only fresh ingredients. I made sure I had a photo to remind me of this feast.

The gesturing hands in this picture belong to Man Bac and Huan playing the very popular game of, "stone, scissors, paper...", adjudicated by Long. In China the game is, "stone, scissors, wrapping", but of course it is just as noisy.

The young sons of a Vietnamese family usually have a freer time than the young daughters, who are very quickly introduced to the tasks they are likely to have to carry out, when they have a home of their own. After supper, Chi's daughter and friend washed up the dishes, without a hint of complaint, and even seemed to be enjoying their task.
